The month of February in the Concho Valley will be chock full of food, fun, and family activities with the arrival of the 79th Annual San Angelo Stock Show and Rodeo. The stock show and rodeo runs from Feb. 17 until Feb. 27 and continues its growth in overall entries and exhibitors according to stock show officials. This positive increase in numbers includes approximately 11,000 total livestock entries in 35 different divisions, involving 7,500 4-H or FFA members representing a vast majority of Texas counties. An estimated $400,000 from local businesses, individuals, and sponsors will benefit the youth of Texas at the premium sale Feb. 26 at the sale pavilion.
Rodeo activities will begin Feb. 8–14 in the 1st Community Credit Union Spur Arena with cowboys and cowgirls competing in slack for a coveted timed-event spot in one of nine rodeo performances. The PRCA rodeo at San Angelo puts in excess of $500,000 in prize monies up for grabs. Current PRCA world champions are expected to attend for the chance to compete in the championship final round Feb. 26.
This year’s rodeo will feature the recent two-time PRCA Coors man in the can, clown, and comedy act entertainer, Keith Isley. Isley is new to San Angelo’s rodeo line up for 2011 and is sure to be an entertaining and popular character figure inside the rodeo arena.
Tickets for all nine rodeo performances are currently on sale at the coliseum box office, at Blair’s Western Wear, at the convention center, and at Elite Physique’ s Knickerbocker location.
Midway attractions will be seemingly endless. From all the thrilling rides to the delicious food, shopping in the Wells Fargo Pavilion to kids’ activities in the Qualtrust Exhibit Hall and TXP Kids Korral. Everyone is sure to enjoy this year’s midway.
A $60 carnival super pass is available for purchase at the coliseum box office until Feb. 16. The pass offers unlimited rides for 10 days during carnival operating hours. Two new contests will be featured in this year’s schedule of events.
The San Angelo Restaurant Association Championship BBQ Cook-off will take place February 19th for a chef’s chance to show-off their BBQ culinary skills. A “Trash to Treasure” Recycling Art Contest for Pre-K thru 5th graders is a recycling opportunity for local classroom involvement on the fairgrounds.
